A Little Information Can Be Frightening

June 19, 2008 – 8:30 pm
I went to have my teeth cleaned. After the cleaning the dental hygenist did a pre-cancer screening. She looked a bit alarmed and warned me that I had red spots in my mouth and that that meant danger. I was alarmend and went to the internet to research the subject and learned about erythroplakia, the red areas or lesions in the mouth. Here is a short exerpt: "Severe epithelial dysplasia is a well-established precancer and has been shown to proceed to malignant transformation in at least one-third of all oral cases and carcinoma in situ is considered by many to already be a cancer, one which has been fortuitously diagnosed during its preinvasive stage. There is no information relative to the length of time an untreated oral carcinoma in situ typically exists before it begins to invade into underlying connective tissues, or the proportion which will actually invade if left untreated. ...

MicroHoo, it is over for me. Down with Yahoo and Microsoft.

May 23, 2008 – 1:23 pm
I don't know how many times Yahoo has booted my website from their search listings then added it back just to drop it again. And now they have deleted my Geocities website that has been in existence for about 8 years. I've had it with Yahoo. I've deleted my Yahoo account. I don't want their e-mail service, Hot Jobs, web services or any other 'services' they supply. If you want to delete your account from Yahoo go HERE. It feels so good to be rid of that load of crap. And I am also dumping Microsoft Windows. I've entered into the Linux world and I love it. So many truly great Linux distros and programs. There is no longer any excuse not to switch to Linux anymore. The ease of installation and the intuitive graphic interfaces transform Linux into an understandable system, no longer an OS for ...

Yahoo with their inktomi search engine is terrible

May 6, 2008 – 6:11 am
Yahoo! holds the dubious distinction amongst the top 5 search engines of being the only one to post a year-over-year decline in market share. I find Yahoo a bit of a joke. The harder they try to monetize everything they do the more they suck. My website has been an organic part of the web for many years, yet Yahoo can't seem to hold it in their search results. One day it is there, the next day it is gone. My site is even included in their directory. But then, their directory has become meaningless for search results in the iktomi search engine. Don't search with Yahoo. Use Google. They know what you want and provide real services that work.

Lithium Experiments

April 1, 2008 – 6:30 pm
I have posted to this blog about the possible benefits of lithium to protect against Alzheimer's. Here is a brief quote from the previous Alzheimer's post: "Researchers have reported that lithium inhibits beta-amyloid secretion, and also prevents damage caused by beta-amyloid protein once it’s been formed.20-23 Beta-amyloid peptide is a signature protein involved in Alzheimer’s disease: the more beta-amyloid protein, the worse the Alzheimer’s becomes." I bought nonprescription Lithium Aspartate from my local health food store. It is made by Solaray and comes in 5 MG capsules. I don't suffer from any mental disorder but I can get emotional and passionate over certain subjects, sometimes to my own detriment! I figured taking a small dose of only 5 MG would be safe. I notice other brands using Lithium Orotate come in much higher dosages. After taking the pill it starts to work quite rapidly. Unlike Serotonin uptake inhibitors that need to build up ...

Public Opinion

March 30, 2008 – 9:10 am
This quote is from the Urantia Book. The Urantia Book claims to be a revelation to humankind given by various nonhuman entities. These beings have opinions. Some of these beings claim their opinions are not up for questioning, that they know whereof  they speak because of their high universe status. Other authors of the Urantia Book have their origins on this planet and are 'cousins' to human beings and their universe status is much lower. "Public opinion, common opinion, has always delayed society; nevertheless, it is valuable, for, while retarding social evolution, it does preserve civilization. Education of public opinion is the only safe and true method of accelerating civilization; force is only a temporary expedient, and cultural growth will increasingly accelerate as bullets give way to ballots. Public opinion, the mores, is the basic and elemental energy in social evolution and state development, but to be of state value it ...

Channeler - Chapt. 13: Sakkak

March 22, 2008 – 2:42 pm
13: SAKKAK SAKKAK floated downwards, stopping its descent about five feet from the floor. It wanted to be larger. Since its body was modular, consisting of individual spheres, pyramids and cubes all bundled together, growth was accomplished by adding more of these shapes to the main body. The techno-monster willed it to be so. From somewhere far off in the horizon, the back door opened, letting in some of the toylike objects that had rained from the sky. Flowing in a channel bound by invisible borders, they tumbled and danced across the wide expanse of linoleum, until they reached SAKKAK, where they jumped from the floor to SAKKAK's body, drawn to the entity like a magnet. SAKKAK's overall shape became that of two large pyramids, connected at their bases. The individual objects composing its body pulsed with rhythmic change--sphere to to cube to pyramid--over and over again with hypnotic regularity. Rick, Lisa and ...

Channeler - Chapt. 12: Revelations

March 19, 2008 – 1:19 pm
12: REVELATIONS Lisa didn't know how to return to her body. She remained fixed in position by lines of force that stretched from dream to reality. But the desire to return to flesh became weaker and weaker as the transformations of the Transmitter held her mind captive. So beautiful, so fluid, the metamorphoses of hundreds of simple geometric forms in rapid flux--sphere to cube to pyramid--sphere to cube to pyramid--over and over again... "I've got the Gift," Gilbert said to the floating form as it lit the dome's interior with a dazzling light show. The Transmitter suddenly spun like a top, all the while its surface in constant change. Then, just as abruptly, it stopped spinning. In a high, stilted voice, the voice of a child, the Transmitter said "Please place the memory module directly in the receptacle located on my topside." Gilbert reached into his pocket and removed the tiny pearl. ...

Opinionism

March 18, 2008 – 11:20 am
The universe is God's opinion of reality, of all that is. God desires his creatures to have opinions. God's creatures have many diverse opinions about reality, about religion. Opinions are necessary to make choices. Life is about choice. Making the choice to become a continuing entity in the universe [universe: God's active decision based on his opinion of what all that is should be] one must eventually hold the same opinion of reality as God holds or else your opinion becomes unreal and so do you. You must eventually hold the same opinion as God to become an ongoing reality because God's opinion is reality.

Channeler - Chapt. 11: New Spaces

March 17, 2008 – 8:25 pm
11: NEW SPACES When night fell over Boulderdale, it brought with it even greater amounts of rain: pounding, freezing rain, cutting through the atmosphere in great, icy sheets, hitting the ground as if gravity had tripled. Lisa was in bed, covered with four blankets, but still she shivered with cold, her skin prickly with goose bumps. Her nosebleed had finally stopped, after fighting with it for over an hour. They'd used up nearly an entire box of tissues before the blood clotted. Lisa shivered, pulled the blankets up to her neck. Her head throbbed so hard at times it made her wince. Aspirin had little effect, if any. Sarah reached for a glass from the kitchen cupboard. The room spun in circles, forcing her to stand still for a moment. She was afraid to admit it, even to herself, but the pressure in her head was becoming worse. After Rick's words about ...

Channeler - Chapt. 10: Nosebleeds

March 15, 2008 – 9:16 pm
10: NOSEBLEEDS He shouldn't be sitting here. He has a moral duty to perform, an important one. He must speak to Lisa and Sarah. Warn them. Help them somehow. Explain to Lisa that he had been wrong to lead her to the Receiver. And Sarah...her innocent curiosity is going to victimize her. He must warn her...warn them both. How could he have been so blind, so intellectually dishonest? But Rick sat on his coach, staring at the ashes in the fireplace--not moving. Frozen in place. It was cold. He needed to get the fire going again. But he didn't. He thought of Paul instead. Paul had been a sincere man that he admired. Looked up to. Paul had lifted Rick out of a deep depression caused by his divorce, showed him an amazing power he could aspire to. But now Paul was dead. Duped into something neither of them could ...
